Angel Island AdventureThis is my page about the Year 2001 and my 6th Angel Island Adventure. Around Mid-June of each year, my family and I go on a walk. Not just any walk, mind you, but a five-mile tramp around the edges of Angel Island (the reason the event is called Angel Island Adventure). Angel Island is in the middle of the San Francisco Bay. From the various edges of the island, you can see San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Tiburon, Oakland, Mount Tamalpais and Sausalito. We have made a lot of friends on our annual walk - others who are working toward the same cause we are. We're all walking for the cure. One way or another, all of us have been touched by the disease - someone in our families or one of our friends or even ourselves have encountered a brain tumor. I am one of the lucky ones. I am a seven-year survivor of a brain tumor. The tumor that invaded my head was a mixed type - consisting of part slow-growing oligodendroglioma, and part quickly-growing anaplastic astrocytoma. It's been gone now for seven years. It was hard to get rid of it, I lost my hair and some of my mobility... but I'm here. I made it. That's part of why we gather together on Angel Island - to celebrate life, to celebrate being together, to celebrate those we have known. Here are some photographs of various years we've gone to the Island - may you enjoy the pictures as much as we enjoyed going to the Island! |
